Passport Change Registration in the Czech Republic

New Passport? Don’t Forget the Ministry.

Getting a new passport or national ID card from your embassy is a relief, but in the Czech Republic, your job isn’t quite finished yet. As an EU citizen, your residency status is legally tied to your specific travel document number.

As of January 1, 2026, the Czech Republic has transitioned to a fully digital Foreigner Account (Cizinecký účet) system. While this was designed to make life easier, it has introduced new mandatory digital identity requirements. Failure to report your new document within the legal timeframe can lead to fines and issues when traveling or proving your right to work. We ensure your transition to your new document is recorded perfectly in the national register.

Why You Must Report Your New Document

  • The 15-Day Rule: EU citizens are legally required to report a change of travel document within 15 working days of receiving the new one.

  • Travel Records: If you have a physical Registration Certificate (Potvrzení o přechodném pobytu), the document number inside it must match the passport in your hand to be valid for border crossings.

  • Digital Synchronization: In the 2026 system, your “Digital Identity” (e-ID) is linked to your passport. An outdated number can lock you out of government portals, health insurance records, and tax filings.

  • Avoid Fines: Administrative fines for non-compliance remain a tool used by the Ministry for late reports.

Who Can Apply?

  • EU/EEA & Swiss Citizens who have received a new passport or national ID card.
  • Permanent Residents (EU) whose residence card is tied to an expired passport.
  • Expats with a Registration Certificate whose “booklet” contains an old document number.

What Is Included in Our Service?

We handle the technical and bureaucratic heavy lifting so you don’t have to:

  1. Foreigner Account Setup (2026 Update): We assist you in navigating the new mandatory digital portal to report the change electronically.
  2. Form Completion: We prepare the official Oznámení změn (Notification of Changes) form, ensuring the “Druh změny” (Type of Change) section is correctly marked.
  3. Data Box Submission: If you have a Data Box, we handle the secure transmission to the Ministry (the preferred method in 2026).
  4. In-Person Accompaniment: If a physical update to your residence booklet is required (which is still common for EU certificates), we book the OAMP appointment and accompany you to the desk.
  5. Fine Mitigation: If you have missed the 15-day deadline, we provide a professional explanation to help minimize or waive potential administrative fines.

We offer a complete remote service to help you officially update your new passport details with full support, no hidden fees, and minimal effort on your part.
